Aspen Trace is the first phase of a new CCRC campus located in Greenwood, Indiana. The first phase of the project includes 104 skilled nursing beds and 36 assisted living apartments. The nursing facility includes a 26-bed rehab unit and a 26-bed secure memory-care area. Long-term skilled care provides another 20 private and 16 semi-private rooms. Semi-private rooms include a full-height wall between beds. The assisted living accommodations include 32 one-bedroom apartments and 4 two-bedroom apartments. The design was conceived to facilitate person-directed care.

It was important to CarDon to provided separation between the skilled nursing facilities and the assisted living apartments. A “main street” including a theater, multi-purpose activities space, beauty salon and private dining was incorporated between the two use groups. In addition, main entrances were planned for each of the four “households”. The creation of a homelike environment was also very important. Residents can dine at the Bistro, watch a movie at the Heartland Theatre, participate in activities in the Civic Hall, or sit under an umbrella in one of the outdoor Courtyards. Storage was designed throughout the facility to enable the staff to keep the corridors clear of equipment.
